2026 Disability Pride Theme Unveiled: We Belong Here and We’re Here to Stay
Disability Pride Pennsylvania (DPP) has announced its 2026 theme—"We Belong Here and We're Here to Stay"—as it prepares to expand celebrations to three new regions across Pennsylvania.
"I am incredibly excited for our 2026 Disability Pride celebrations as we continue our flagship events in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, return to Harrisburg, and expand into new communities including Erie, Washington County, and Lancaster," says Executive Director Vicki Landers.
This year’s theme reflects what Vicki has witnessed firsthand: disabled people building community, claiming space, and shaping Pennsylvania's future. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, these celebrations honor disability as a vital part of shared history and a powerful force in what comes next.
Statewide Expansion Underway
The 2026 celebrations will reach more Pennsylvania communities than ever. Erie, Washington County, and Lancaster are joining Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg, meaning more disabled Pennsylvanians can access live Disability Pride events close to home.
“The new celebrations are being shaped by local community members who have been asking for these spaces, grounded in relationships and shared leadership in Erie, Washington County, and Lancaster,” says Vicki. “Expanding into these regions feels like a natural coming together of communities, rooted in shared purpose rather than growth for growth’s sake.”

Building Connections Across the State
DPP's new Community Engagement Manager Josie Byzek is based in Pittsburgh and is actively building connections with disability-led organizations, advocacy groups, cultural institutions, and community leaders throughout Western Pennsylvania. “I’m eager to meet you and learn about your work,” says Josie. “Let me know what’s important to you and where we might collaborate.”
DPP is also launching Claiming Space, a new blog for amplifying disabled voices and sharing stories from across Pennsylvania. The organization welcomes submissions from individuals and organizations about their work, experiences, community initiatives, and perspectives on disability culture. Send ideas, reels, posts, and artwork to Josie@DisabilityPridePA.org.
