We know that music has the ability to impact mental health, but what if the song was specifically tailored to your life experiences? Ashley Murray is a musician and mental health advocate that leads a Therapeutic Songwriting Workshop with NAMI Philadelphia. As a child, she had a lot of big feelings and found comfort in journaling and songwriting; those skills helped her untangle the threads of her thoughts. Ashley believes that every person can write a song because songwriting is simply storytelling with melody. We are all experts in telling our own stories, we just need the right tools to unlock our creativity. This workshop will teach participants to use songwriting as a coping strategy to help them process their experiences, regulate their emotions, and explain their feelings better.
