Outdoors for Everyone

‘Outdoors for Everyone’ is a new program to find FUN ways for communities to come together in 2024 in outdoor spaces. The excitement for outdoor programming has sparked new ideas and ways to  include new partners. Disability Pride PA will produce activities along the Delaware River Trail utilizing and surveying more the trail with partners like Adapted Birders, The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, and more.

This is partially funded by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council in collaboration with The Circuit Trails Coalition.

We are working with our partners on a robust calendar of events starting in February 2024! Come back soon.

Forest Bathing

June 29, 2024 10am-11am

“Forest bathing draws on thousands of years of intuitive knowledge telling us that we are a part of nature and that we have a deep need to feel that connection. Guided forest bathing enhances these benefits by practicing as a collective - inspiring and supporting each other.   Time spent in the forest reduces the stress hormone cortisol in the body, enhancing mood and lowering anxiety. Other benefits include reduction of blood pressure, boosting serotonin levels and enhancing alpha brain waves.  Take time to leave your daily demands and devices behind, and receive a powerful practice to take back with you”, says Peg Schofield.

Join us at the Schuylkill Trail with Peg Schofield, registered Horticultural therapist who will lead us in a forest bathing activity with a community sharing after with light snacks.

We will gather at The Schuylkill River Trail in front of the Lloyd Hall Recreation Center. There is a parking lot at the Lloyd Hall with a few accessible parking spaces. Register here.  Registration will close 72 hours before the event.

Accessible Birding and Tour of 'The Bird Ethic' art installation

April 14, 2024

10 AM -12:30 PM

Experience the joy of birding on our paved Widener Trail, where you’ll also have the opportunity to explore “The Bird Ethic,” an exhibition by Susan Hagen. This site-specific outdoor installation features sculptural diorama-like installations that delve into the history of bird conservation and ornithology in America.

In addition to the birding and art viewing, we’ll have food and drink available to keep you refreshed throughout the event. To ensure an inclusive and accessible experience, we’ll provide sensory kits, live audio descriptions, and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation. The event also features Braille signage for visually impaired attendees.

This event is free to attend. Registration is required. This event is in partnership with Art-Reach, Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports, and the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.

We do not have a rain date scheduled as of yet.
